New Album From Asher Roth is Homegrown and Coming Soon

If you’re in the Rothosphere, you got an exciting email on Wednesday morning detailing the rapper’s upcoming plans. It is Ash Wednesday, after all. For those who missed it, let me hook you up with the skinny.

Asher Roth’s new album is on its way. Per the email, “the roll out” for the project will begin on March 25th with “plenty of announcements” along the way. Announcements listed in the note include the album’s title, release date, and collaborations.

While Roth has kept a lot of details close to the vest, he did reveal the album will be influenced by his native Philadelphia.

“I’d say this album is the most genuine reflection of myself thus far,” Roth said in a text on Wednesday. “I wanted to move home to make this album, recording with homegrown talent from in and around Philly.”

His most recent single, “Mommydog,” featured two Philadelphia musicians — Rob Deckhart (producer) and CJ Smith (vocals) — so they could be two guys to look out for on the new project. I’m not sure if “Mommydog” will be part of the upcoming release but it definitely has lead single written all over it.

Outside of the album, Roth (along with Uncle Ron) will be hosting a happy hour at Blind Barber in Philadelphia on Wednesdays starting March 4th from 6–10 p.m. For the college hoops fans, Roth is also rallying the troops for his 11th annual NCAA Tournament bracket pool.
