Dak Out For Season; Jerry Jones, Andy Dalton, Jason Garrett React

By now you’ve heard the news that Dak Prescott went down with a gruesome ankle injury in the Cowboys’ Week 5 game against the New York Giants. Now it’s clear that it’s as bad as it seemed; Dak is expected to miss the rest of the season.

The official diagnosis was a compound fracture and a dislocated ankle. He already went into surgery and, according to Adam Schefter, it went “very well.”

Here is the play if you dare — WARNING: IT’S GROSS.

Dak’s brother, Tad Prescott, was in the hospital and posted a photo of a smiling Dak from his hospital bed. “He’ll be back STRONGER than ever,” he captioned the post.

The Cowboys went on to beat New York after a little magic from back-up quarterback and three-time Pro Bowler Andy Dalton.

Dalton finished 9-of-11 for 111 yards. He was in for five drives, including the game-winning drive that spanned 72 yards in 52 seconds and led to a 34-yard field goal from Greg Zuerlein as time expired.

There’s been an outpouring of support for Dak on social media, including well-wishes from fellow Dallas legends Dirk Nowitzki and Dez Bryant, former Cowboys QB Quincy Carter, Joe Theismann and many others.

His former head coach Jason Garrett, now the OC with New York, came out to the field when Dak was down and called his former QB a “true inspiration” after the game.

Jerry Jones released a statement on the injury as well:

“We are all heartbroken for Dak and this very disappointing injury. The outpouring of messages that I have received regarding his setback speaks volumes to the respect and admiration that he has earned from his teammates, former Cowboys players and Cowboys supporters everywhere.

I know this young man very well.

I know the personal hardship and strife that he has faced, dealt with and overcome in his young life.

And I know of no one who is more prepared, from the perspective of mental and emotional toughness and determination, than Dak Prescott to respond and recover from this challenge that has been put in front of him.

He is an inspiration to everyone he touches. He has all of our love and support.

And we have no doubt that he will return to the position of leadership and purpose that he brings to our team.”

Dalton, who is the presumed starter in Dallas moving forward, said he’s “praying” for Dak, while CeeDee Lamb told The Dallas Morning News that losing Dak was “probably the biggest thing that could happen to this team.”

Now 2-3 on the year and in sole possession of the NFC East lead, Dallas plays Arizona on Monday Night Football in Week 6.
