WATCH: DJ Stewart Breaks Monster Slump With 2 Jacks

DJ Stewart was having such a bad slump that they sent him back to the Orioles’ alternate training site. He was hitless in his first six games (0-for-14) and it was a bad hitless, not the hitting the ball hard with bad luck kind of hitless. Eight of those 14 at-bats resulted in big ol’ K’s.

He was hitting well, by all accounts, at the training site so the O’s brought him back a few days ago. In his first two games back he didn’t snag any hits but walked three times and at least bolstered his OBP game. Finally, on Saturday, he got in the hit column, snapping what had amounted to a whopping 0-for-17 slump. What’s more, it was a dinger to put the O’s up 1-0 over the Yanks in the bottom of the sixth inning. What’s even more, it was off one of the game’s best pitchers, Gerrit Cole.

But wait…there was more!

Stewart did it again one inning later, this time hitting a 400-plus foot dinger up onto an empty Eutaw St.

Now he has a real batting average (.105) and the O’s won handily 6-1. The win was their second in a row over the Yanks and they’re inching back toward .500.
