Don Mattingly Now Marlins Winningest Manager

If you want to see the value of a good manager, look no further than Don Mattingly and the Miami Marlins. The Marlins brought in practically an entire new ballclub post-outbreak and went on to sweep the Baltimore Orioles in four games. Combined, the Fish held Baltimore to one run in the first three games in the series before eeking out an 8-7 win in the finale.

Not only did the Marlins improve to 6-1 on the season — the highest win percentage in the league — but the win also pushed Mattingly past Jack McKeon for the most wins of any Marlins skipper (282). McKeon, who led the Fish to a World Series win in 2003, had 281 wins in 3.5 seasons as their manager. Memorably, McKeon came back to manage the Marlins midseason in 2011 after Edwin Rodriguez resigned.

Mattingly, an MVP and six-time all-star as a player, managed the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2011-15, leading them to three postseason appearances. He took over the Marlins ballclub in 2016. He was given a contract extension in 2019.
