Dwight Howard Cuts Promo Announcing He’s “Back in the Dunk Contest”

It’s official, folks. Dwight Howard, aka Superman, is returning to the NBA Slam Dunk Contest. A three-time participant in the event, and 2008 winner, Howard announced the news officially — in WWE-like fashion — during a visit to the NBA Store in New York City.

The Lakers are in town to play the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden.

Howard has experienced a career rejuvenation this year, returning to the Los Angeles Lakers alongside LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Kyle Kuzma, and Rajon Rondo. The Lakers are the top seed in the Western Conference, thanks in part to Howard’s obscene (and team-best) 72.8 field goal percentage and consistency. Howard is one of two Lakers who has played in every game and 19-plus minutes per game this season.

More importantly, Dwight seems to be happier than ever. He’s also in great shape and donning a nifty new hairdo. His teammates are embracing the new attitude, which is remarkable considering his teammates in recent years haven’t been on board with him being around. He’s accepted his role off the bench gracefully and enjoying basketball, it seems, for the first time in years.

According to CBS Sports, Miami Heat forward Derrick Jones Jr. is also confirmed for this year’s dunk contest.
