Fans Needn’t Worry About the 2020 NFL Season

In the middle of March, every sport under the sun got the ax because of the coronavirus pandemic. In the weeks that followed, things only got worse, and here we are in the first week of May without any major sports taking place. The NFL will be there for us, though; we needn’t worry about the biggest moneymaker in sports — they’ll be getting theirs.

“Football season will happen,” Mike Florio wrote on Pro Football Talk. According to sources, Florio added, “there is an extremely small chance that there will be no NFL season in 2020.”

The only way there won’t be a season, Florio explains, is if the effects of coronavirus are totally misunderstood.

What would trigger the “extremely small” outcome? As one source put it, the information gleaned from fighting and studying the coronavirus to date would have to be proven dramatically incorrect by future behavior of the virus and the illness it causes in the people who are infected by it.

As of right now, I’m still skeptical, but that’s based on the current testing situation. If testing is available to the masses, I can see an sports returning and things getting back to normal. Florio writes that testing will be “prevalent” by August, so hey, let’s get ready for some football.
