Former QB Greg Ward Jr. Won the Game With His First Touchdown
Most football fans know Greg Ward Jr. from his days in college…as a quarterback. He had an illustrious career at Houston, including a legendary 2015 season that saw him put up 42 touchdowns (21 passing, 21 receiving) and lead the Cougars to a 13-win season. After beating Florida State in the Peach Bowl, the Cougs finished the season ranked No. 8 in the nation.
Like a lot of dual-threat college quarterbacks, he had to switch positions at the pro level. Ward went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft but signed on to the Philadelphia Eagles practice squad. It would take him two years to get real game action — thanks to mass injuries to the Eagles WR group — but he’s since made the most of his opportunity.
Ward had 11 catches in the first three games he got real playing time, then followed it up with a huge touchdown catch on Sunday to beat the Washington Redskins on the road. Ward hauled in a four-yard pass in the back of the endzone with less than 30 seconds left to put Philadelphia ahead 31-27, a lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

Greg Ward Jr. was the only Eagles’ receiver to catch a pass in Week 15, grabbing a career-best seven balls for 61 yards and a score. He’s emerged as the top target for Carson Wentz with Alshon Jeffery, Nelson Agholor and Desean Jackson sidelined.
The Eagles would score again on a fumble return as time expired, winning the game 37-27.
The win was needed as the Eagles are still fighting with Dallas for the NFC East crown. The two rivals will meet in Week 16 in a game that will go a long way in deciding who makes the playoffs and who sits home watching. Both teams are currently 7-7 entering the final two weeks of the season. Dallas, it should be noted, won the first matchup of the season.
