Former Washington Redskins Shine During AAF Inaugural Weekend

Three former Washington Redskins had huge games this past weekend as part of the AAF’s first-ever slate of games.

The Alliance of American Football (or AAF) held real games for the first time this past weekend, showcasing four games across two days on CBS and CBSSN. Early feedback looks pretty good; fans flocked to their televisions on Saturday night, posting a TV rating (3.1) that beat a high-profile NBA game between the Rockets and Thunder. The on-field action impressed, too, highlighted by a gang of former Washington Redskins: Steve Spurrier (head coach, 2002-03), Rashad Ross (wide receiver, 2015-16) and Terence Garvin (linebacker, 2016).

Steve Spurrier — Washington’s head coach in 2002 and 2003 — led the Orlando Apollos to a league-best 40 points against the Atlanta Legends on Saturday night, dialing up all sorts of exciting stuff along the way.

Not everything came from his play-calling, though; one touchdown came after Terence Garvin, a linebacker from the 2016 Washington Redskins, took a Matt Simms pass to the house. Garvin finished the game with two interceptions.

On Sunday, former Redskins wideout Rashad Ross looked like the best receiver in the league for the Atlanta Hotshots. Ross caught five passes for a game-high 103 receiving yards and a touchdown to help Arizona down Salt Lake 38-22.

The AAF will continue their season this coming weekend with games on TNT, CBSSN, and the NFL Network.
