George Mason Basketball Handles LaSalle in Sunday Matinee

George Mason ended their two-game losing streak on Sunday afternoon with an 84-76 win over LaSalle.

Despite their 7-15 record, LaSalle gave George Mason everything they could handle on Sunday at Eagle Bank Arena in Fairfax, VA. The Explorers held a 39-37 lead over George Mason at halftime, putting a scare into the hometown crowd and Patriots’ fans watching on Stadium.

With their backs against the wall, George Mason showed their resiliency by putting together a strong showing in the second half. Junior Justin Kier led the second-half charge for the Patriots, scoring all 13 of his points in the final 20 minutes, en route to an 84-76 win that halted a two-game losing streak.

Mason’s starting five did the bulk of the scoring damage, combining for 86 percent of their points (72 of 84). Only Jordan Miller was held below 10 points, scoring eight, while starters  Javon Greene (career-high 21 points), Jarred Reuter (16 points) and Otis Livingston II (14 points) all reached double figures.

Although LaSalle was effective from deep, hitting 11 of 27 treys, Mason dominated the glass (36 to 23) and gave themselves plenty of extra opportunities on offense with 10 offensive rebounds. Reuter snagged four of those offensive boards, including one midway through the second half that allowed the Patriots to take a 63-62 lead. Mason never trailed again after that play.

Now 8-3 in Atlantic 10 play, Mason is among four conference teams with at least eight wins. Davidson and VCU are 8-2, while Mason and Dayton are both a half-game back at 8-3.

On Wednesday, the Patriots will be at home again for a 7:00 P.M ET matchup against UMass. Last month, Mason handled the Minutemen at the Mullins Center with a 68-63 victory.
