George Mason Got Throttled by Bonnies in Upstate NY

George Mason lost 79-56 on Sunday in Olean, NY against the Bonnies.

If you’re a fan of George Mason, nothing about their game on Sunday was good. They were absolutely throttled by the Bonnies in Upstate NY, losing 79-56 in a game that was pretty much out of hand from start to finish.

Right off the bat, St. Bonaventure was on fire, scoring the first 16 points of the game. From there, nothing really changed; the Bonnies, quite simply, didn’t miss many shots. And to add to Mason’s despair, they were plain ole average when they had the rock themselves.

In total, the Bonnies shot 57.9 percent from deep (11-for-19) and 56.4 percent from the field (31-for-55). Freshman Kyle Lofton, coming off two of his worst games of the year, led the way for St. Bonaventure with 32 points, ridiculously hitting seven of eight three-balls.

As for Mason, they received a no-show from center Jarred Reuter, who missed all four of his field goal attempts and both of his free throw attempts, and most of their bench. Combined, GMU’s bench shot 23.5 percent (4-for-17) and if you take out Jamal Hartwell II, who was 3-for-5, it looks a lot worse (1-for-12).

Mason’s next game is a big one, however, as they have a full week of practice before hosting Duquesne on Saturday, February 23rd in their homecoming game.
