GRAPH: New York Mets Playoff Odds By Day (Since July 24th)
If you’re a New York Mets fan, everything is right in the world today. They’ve gone on a tear since July 25th, which, ironically, is the day they turned their season around in the 2015 season. Of course, back in 2015, they wound up going on an epic (and surprising) run to the 2015 World Series.
Since July 25th, the Mets have lost just once while winning 11 games. They’re now over .500 for the first time since May 2nd when they beat the Cincinnati Reds 1-0 to improve to 16-15.
When their run started, the Mets were 46-55 with a slim chance to make the postseason (3.9%), according to FanGraphs. Rumors swirled daily about the upcoming trade deadline, which pretty much everyone agreed would end with the Mets selling off assets. Rather than selling, though, the Mets made a splashy acquisition, snagging Marcus Stroman from Toronto for a prospect package. Jump to present day and FanGraphs is giving New York a 34.2 percent shot of making the postseason, ahead of season-long contenders like Philadelphia, Milwaukee, Oakland, and, shockingly, the Boston Red Sox.

New York has two more games left against Miami, which they need to win badly because their schedule is about to get much tougher. After Miami, NL East rivals Washington and Atlanta await, followed by late-August series with the Cubs and Indians. This will be the real test for the Mets. They’ve gotten themselves back into the conversation but skeptics will say they did it by beating bad teams, which is true, at least to some degree.
It’s a good time to be a Mets fan. Now, it’s up to the team to carry the momentum forward and hopefully, mimic the results they had back in 2015.
