Greg Schiano Jabs Vols Fans in First Rutgers Presser

Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano is back where he belongs and Rutgers’ fans are totally on board. He was introduced at a press conference on Wednesday, and it seems like better times are ahead for the Scarlet Knights.

During the presser, Schiano made a comment that will likely make fans in New Jersey like him even more, and fans of the Tennessee Volunteers dislike him more than they already did.

“I think reflecting on it, it shows Jersey people are a little sharper,” he said, referencing the outrage by Vols fans to nix his hiring in November of 2017.

“They get it,” he added.

The outrage by Vols fans stemmed from his time at Penn State and his involvement in the Jerry Sandusky scandal.

Some alleged that Schiano, an assistant coach under Joe Paterno at Penn State, knew about the child abuse by Jerry Sandusky, as alleged by ex-Penn State assistant Mike McQueary in a 2015 deposition. Schiano has denied knowledge of such allegations, but Tennessee went in another direction, instead hiring Jeremy Pruitt, who has compiled a 12-12 record.

Schiano coached at Rutgers from 2001 to 2011 before taking an NFL head coaching gig. From 2005 to 2011, he had six winning seasons, five bowl victories, and six bowl appearances. After he left (2012-present), the Scarlet Knights have only had two winning seasons and one bowl victory.

Rutgers joined the Big Ten before the 2014 season and had a solid first season in their new conference, posting an 8-5 record. Since then, however, there has been zero winning seasons and plenty of bad press.
