J. Cole Set a Spotify Record For Opening Day Streams With Title Track “KOD”

Before April 20th, Taylor Swift held the Spotify record (in the United States) for streams of a single song on its initial release day. That song, “Look What You Made Me Do”, was blasted over 3.8 million times and held the record for almost a year. However, J. Cole put her record to sleep on April 20th when the title track to his KOD album (KOD) was streamed over 4.2 million times, per ChartData.

The song is probably the most catchy track on the album and is a bonafide hit already.

“This is what you call a flip,
Ten keys from a quarter brick,
Bentley from his mama’s whip,
K.O.D., he hard as shit..”

While Cole now holds this record, Drake actually holds the record for streams on any day. His song, “God’s Plan”, was streamed over 4.7 million times in mid-January of this year.

KOD features 12 songs and as usual, has zero features. In my opinion, it’s his best project to date and one that follows a theme that always needs more attention — addiction. After the release, Kevin Durant called KODmuch-needed music” and one of Cole’s heroes, Nas, gave it a vote of confidence on Instagram.
