KenPom: Lowest Ranked Major College Basketball Programs

The KenPom rankings are out for the 2019-20 college basketball season and there’s a lot to talk about from a high-major perspective. Rutgers is ranked 63rd, higher than they have ever finished in the KenPom era, the Big East is the second-best conference in the nation and the American Athletic Conference is nipping at the heels of the Pac-12 in terms of overall league strength.

Top 7 College Basketball Conferences

  1. Big 12 (16.93)
  2. Big East (16.14)
  3. Big 10 (15.97)
  4. ACC (15.93)
  5. SEC (14.96)
  6. Pac-12 (9.68)
  7. American (8.85)

Beyond the top seven, no conference has a rating higher than 4.20.

The three ‘Big’ conferences are solid from top to bottom and have every program ranked in the KenPom Top 100, as well as one or more programs in the top 10. The bottom four all have at least one team ranked below No. 100, though the American and Pac-12 have multiple. In total, 10 programs from the top seven conferences are outside the KenPom Top 100 and 80 percent are American or Pac-12 teams.

The AAC, which is as top-heavy as it usually is, has the only representatives ranked in the 200s.
