LOOK: Kevin Durant IG Post & All The NBA Finals Game 5 Drama

All the drama from Game 5 of the NBA Finals, including an all-time stretch from Kawhi Leonard and the now-famous post-win Kevin Durant IG post.

Game 5 of the NBA Finals was the best game of the series so far and all the major characters were at their best, both on and off the court.

  • Kawhi Leonard put the Raptors on his back late in the fourth quarter, scoring 10 consecutive points to bring them from a two-point deficit (95-93) to a six-point lead (103-97). The Warriors eventually won 106-105 but had Toronto won, this stretch would be remembered forever. Toronto was down pretty much all game until Leonard got his hero on.

  • Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson saved the game for Golden State, hitting three combined treys after Kawhi’s insane run. With 2:32 remaining, Klay cut the aforementioned 103-97 lead to 103-100 with a deep three, then Steph followed a minute later with a game-tying trey. One possession later, Klay hit another three to put Golden State up 106-103. The last three proved to be enough, with the Dubs holding off Toronto 106-105. Curry and Thompson combined for 57 points in Game 5.

  • Draymond Green was the best he’s been all series, both with his play, he just missed a triple-double (10 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists), and with his antics (he had the game’s only technical foul). Oh yeah, he also had the game-saving block at the buzzer.

  • Boogie Cousins was key for Golden State after Kevin Durant went down (we’ll get to that), scoring a series-high 14 points on 6-of-8 shooting.
  • Kyle Lowry, the second-most notable Raptors player, was also at the forefront in Game 5, though not in a good way. You see, down 106-105, Lowry had a chance to be the hero as time expired; he got a clean look in the corner but Draymond got a piece of Lowry’s jumper and wasn’t even close.

  • Last but not least, and certainly the most intriguing of all players, we get to the Kevin Durant saga. Durant returned for Game 5 and was lights out, leading the Warriors to a 34-28 lead after one quarter. But early in the second, Durant, who was on pace for 40-plus points at the time, went down with another injury. He hit all three of his three-point attempts while on the floor, finishing with 11 points and a +6 plus-minus in 12 minutes.

Without Durant, Golden State eeked out a win, yet the Durant story didn’t stop when he left the court. No, he was spotted leaving the arena on crutches and, according to Bob Myers via For The Win, it was an “Achilles injury” that will require an MRI on Tuesday.

Sad stuff.

When he got to a quiet place, though, Durant let it all out on his Instagram story, saying he was “hurting deep in the soul.”

This was the worst-case scenario for Durant; a serious Achilles injury means no more NBA Finals and it also muddies the free agency waters this summer.

Dub nation gonna be loud as (expletive) for game 6.

I’m hurting deep in the soul right now I can’t lie but seeing my brothers get this win was like taking a shot of tequila, i got new life lol.

Hopefully, it’s nothing serious. Either way, though, I don’t think we’ll be seeing him in Game 6 or Game 7.

Game 6 is set for Thursday, June 13th at 9:00 P.M ET on ABC. As far as storylines go, how great would it be for Golden State to force a Game 7 for Durant…and for their city. After all, Game 6 will be their final time playing at Oracle Arena.

This series seems destined to go the distance.
