MGK Takes Home Best Alternative Song VMA For “Bloody Valentine”

Most people know MGK as a rapper. He went toe-to-toe with Eminem in 2019 and has been an act on Diddy’s label for almost a full decade (he signed with Bad Boy in 2012). Recently, however, he’s been dipping his toe into the rock-and-roll scene; first with 2019’s “I Think I’m OK” and then a bevy of pop-punk tracks in 2020 that will be on his full-fledged rock album, Tickets to My Downfall, that’s expected this fall.

The most notable of these new rock tracks from MGK is “Bloody Valentine,” a slick song that features his new lady (Megan Fox) in the video and co-writing credits from pals Mod Sun and Travis Barker (among others).

The video already has over 34 million views to its name and on Sunday added some hardware as well. “Bloody Valentine” took home the Best Alternative Song trophy at the 2020 VMA’s, beating out the likes of All-Time Low (“Some Kind of Disaster”), twenty one pilots (“Level of Concern“), Lana Del Ray (“Doin’ Time”) and others.

After the win, MGK thanked his fans vigorously on his Instagram, saying he’s “not used to winning awards” and forgot to mention them in his acceptance speech (it’s a fan-voted award, he noted).

Mod Sun, a co-writer on “Bloody Valentine,” also posted on IG after the win, sharing a picture of himself and MGK celebrating the accomplishment. Good job, y’all. It’s deserved.

MGK, along with blackbear and Barker, also performed at the event, which you can see below. MGK’s voice definitely suits the pop-punk world; he’s for sure bringing back the early-2000s sound.
