Jamal Murray Caps Another 50-pt Game With Touching Postgame Interview

“These shoes give me life,” Jamal Murray said after scoring 50 points in the Nuggets 119-107 win over Utah on Sunday, referring to his George Floyd/Breonna Taylor Adidas sneakers. It was an all-time interview from the up-and-coming guard; it was clear he meant every word. After scoring 50, you could talk about basketball and everyone would be OK with it, but instead Murray chose to continue moving the conversation forward.

It was Murray’s second 50-point game of the series and third consecutive game with 40-plus. During the regular season, he didn’t even have one 40-point game. The win helped Denver force a Game 7 against the Jazz that will take place on Tuesday, September 1st. All told, the Kentucky product went 9-for-12 from beyond the arc and 17-for-24 overall from the field.

In his last three games, he’s averaging 47.3 points per game while shooting 64.2 percent from the field. What’s more, he’s only turned the ball over five times during the three-game stretch. Throughout the season, there have been questions about the lack of a second star on the Nuggets’ roster but Murray is proving he’s up to the task. In fact, he’s been a bigger factor in wins than Nikola Jokic, in my opinion.

Tuesday’s game will air nationally on ABC.

For the Jazz, Donovan Mitchell had 44 points of his own. Both Murray and Mitchell have two 50-point games apiece this series.
