Miguel Castro Makes Mets Debut Against Former Team
Longtime O’s reliever Miguel Castro was shipped right before the MLB trade deadline to the New York Mets in exchange for Kevin Smith and either cash or a player to be named later. The Mets needed to shore up their pen and, with his 98 mph fastball average, Castro makes for a solid option.
While he’s often had the Jekyll vs. Hyde problem in his career, Castro was always a fan favorite in Baltimore. So to see him in a Mets uniform at Camden Yards, it caught the attention of everyone in the O’s orbit.
Miguel Castro in to face … the Orioles at Camden Yards. Seems odd.

The scheduling is super weird, but that’s the way it went down. Castro, who’s made 183 of his 220 MLB appearances in the black and orange of the Orioles, pitched his first game away from the O’s against the O’s. And, you guessed it, he pitched well in his usual No. 50 jersey, completing a scoreless eighth inning in New York’s 9-4 win.
Across four seasons in Baltimore, Castro put up a 4.06 ERA and 3.2 WAR.
