Mississippi State Brings Back ‘Flying M’ Logo For Homecoming

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are bringing back one of their classic logos for their homecoming game against Vanderbilt on November 7th. The ‘Flying M’ logo, made to indicate their efforts in helping with the Space Race, is being reintroduced on their helmets, as well as throwback uniforms.

Worn over a six-year period in the late 60s and early 70s, the Flying M logo was born out of State’s close ties to the United States’ space program and America’s drive to land the first man on the moon. Aerospace and aeronautics research is a major pride point for the university.

The helmet will be white with a maroon stripe down the middle. To “remain true to the era which it was worn,” players will also have two-inch numbers displayed on the back of their helmets.

“To be able to relive that, to bring that history back and showcase it in the modern era, will be huge,” director of football equipment Preston “Stick” Rogers said in the school’s official release. “To see it again in 2020 will bring back a bunch of memories.”

The Vandy-MSU game will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. ET from Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, MS. The game will be broadcast nationally on SEC Network. The Bulldogs are currently 1-3 while Vandy is winless (0-3).
