Netflix Drops Trailer for New Aaron Hernandez True Crime Docuseries
When you combine the world of sports with the true crime phenomenon, it always gets people’s attention. It’s a big reason why Accused and Fall of a Titan were so well-received, and why every trial featuring an athlete has reporters in attendance. It’s a tried and true formula.
Netflix is taking the pairing to the next level with the release of Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez, set to drop on the service January 15th. Today, the trailer came out on their YouTube channel and it’s sure to be a major hit that’s talked about on blogs, sports television, and in every corner of the true crime universe.
The three-part series will examine “what led to the murderous fall and shocking death” of Hernandez, a former NFL star who played for the famously rigid New England Patriots. Hernandez was convicted in April of 2015 for the murder of his friend Odin Lloyd in the summer of 2013. The Lloyd case led to other charges for the former tight end, which the docuseries will detail, as well as his curiously-timed suicide in April of 2017.
Everything came crashing down for Hernandez less than three months after his final NFL game, a loss in the AFC Championship Game to the Baltimore Ravens. Hernandez led the team in targets (14) and receptions (9) in the loss to Baltimore and was just one year into a five-year, $39.58 million contract.
