New Dallas Cowboys Head Coach Betting Odds & Analysis
UPDATE (1/6): It’s been reported that the Dallas Cowboys hired former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. McCarthy wasn’t one of the 11 candidates included in BetOnline’s odds.
After a long, drawn-out process, it looks as though Jerry Jones is ready to pull the plug on Jason Garrett. Longtime Dallas Cowboys reporter Ed Werder broke the news on ESPN on Thursday night, announcing on-air that “Garrett is not part of the organization beyond his expiring contract.”
No official word has come from the team but Garrett’s contract expires on January 14th.
The reported move comes on the heels of a disappointing 8-8 finish and exclusion from the 2019 NFL Playoffs. According to Werder, ownership believed the 2019 Dallas Cowboys boasted “the best roster they had since they won Super Bowls in the 1990s.”
Despite having two different sets of elite triplets in the prime of their careers — Tony Romo, DeMarco Murray, Dez Bryant; Dak Prescott, Ezekiel Elliott, Amari Cooper — as well as an elite offensive line, Garrett failed to bring Dallas to back-to-back playoff appearances in 10 seasons.
The next head coach may not have Cooper, but Dak and Zeke provide a nice foundation. Whoever takes over won’t be in charge of a rebuild. Instead, their task is to get the team to the next level consistently. That’s the question, though; who will it be? There are plenty of qualified choices, some more enticing than others, and BetOnline has betting odds posted for who will get the job. Let’s have a look:

The gig is as high-profile as it gets, and then there’s the Jerry Jones factor. Ownership needs to make sure the lights aren’t too bright for whoever they interview, and the candidates need to make sure they know what they’re getting into.
McDaniels is an innovative guy and a choice that would go over well with the fanbase. That said, he’s also the favorite to get the Cleveland Browns job. I don’t know if Robert Saleh, Eric Bienemy, or Dan Mullen are good fits. Kubiak would be a lateral move. Zimmer has the Cowboys DNA but it doesn’t seem likely. Harbaugh would be an A+ hire, but again, not likely. That leaves us with McDaniels, Riley, Roman, Meyer, and Rhule, five guys you can sell to the fanbase as upgrades, and who would have success, in my opinion.
