Phillies Catcher Andrew Knapp Used Mac Miller’s “Blue World” as Walk-Up Song

Mac Miller may be gone but he will live on forever. His fans are still loyal and, of course, his catalog is deep and timeless. His tunes are even extending into the shortened 2020 MLB season.

“Blue World” from Circles, his posthumous 2020 album, was used as a walk-up song by Philadelphia Phillies catcher Andrew Knapp on Wednesday night against the Orioles. I caught it in the eighth inning, right before Knapp notched an RBI single to cut Baltimore’s lead to 5-4. I then checked Knapp’s previous at-bat and heard a Red Hot Chili Peppers song so I’m not sure if this was a one-off thing or if he even picked it. Nevertheless, it still happened and I was super jacked up about it. Have a look/listen:

Mac’s music and sports have always gone hand in hand, especially in Pennsylvania. I remember the Philadelphia Flyers used “Knock Knock” as their victory song (below) and the Pittsburgh Panthers basketball team paid homage after his passing by going to Blue Slide Park for some kick-ass preseason content.

There’s a lot more, like his friendship with Karl-Anthony Towns, the Pirates honoring his legacy before one of their games in 2018, and some famous photos with himself and Ariana Grande at a Steelers game. Mac’s childhood pal Peanut has some worthwhile sports content, too, like a game of knockout w/Mac and a photo with JuJu Smith-Schuster.

The song worked for Knapp on Wednesday and he’s put together a nice season in limited action. He’s currently hitting .625 — five hits in eight at-bats.

After Knapp’s Mac-influenced knock, the score stayed the same with Baltimore winning 5-4.
