Redskins Mark Sanchez Has Played Great at FedEx Field
Mark Sanchez is the newest member of the Washington Redskins. Fans should be happy to know he’s played great at Washington’s FedEx Field.
Today, the Washington Redskins signed Mark Sanchez in wake of Alex Smith‘s gruesome injury. And whether you like Mark Sanchez or not, there are a few things that are 100-percent fact. First, if you’re a fan of the Washington Redskins, he’s your backup quarterback now behind Colt McCoy. That means he’s literally one snap (too soon?) away from being the starter or getting meaningful playing time. On top of that, it’s also a fact that his resume has a lot more big wins than Colt McCoy.
Having said that, McCoy is still the guy and I’m not here to say anything bad about him. Instead, I want to give you some more confidence in your new backup. Sanchez, believe it or not, has fantastic numbers at Washington’s FedEx Field. In two games against the ‘Skins — both at Washington — Sanchez put up a 93.5 quarterback rating. In Mark’s third season in the NFL, he went into FexEx and beat Mike Shanahan’s Redskins. Sanchez outdueled Rex Grossman for the win, thanks in large part to his ability to limit mistakes. The Redskins didn’t sack Sanchez at all during the game and Mark also didn’t have any turnovers.

After injuries forced him into action, Sanchez played decently as the Eagles’ starter in 2014. Late in the season, he traveled to FedEx Field for his second career game at the stadium but RG3, Alfred Morris, and Desean Jackson were able to come out on top. Sanchez was able to throw the ball all over the field, though, nearly racking up 400 yards passing with two touchdowns.

While his numbers are certainly impressive at FedEx Field, it’s also nice to know that both games were in December. If he does need to play, fans can rest assured knowing that he’s been in similar situations before. Jay Gruden, the head coach of the Washington Redskins, definitely factored this in when pulling the trigger to sign him.

“He’s won some playoff games, he’s got a lot of experience. I think this time of the year, you need somebody who’s taken some meaningful snaps, [with] a lot of experience, and Mark’s done that.”
Washington, who worked out several quarterbacks before signing Mark Sanchez, will play early this week against the Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving.
