Report: MLB Discussing Playoff Bubble

From what we’ve seen so far, bubbles work. Between the TBT, NHL, and NBA, there hasn’t been a major outbreak like the MLB — who’s not using a bubble. With so many teams and so many games, Major League Baseball couldn’t get a bubble for their 2020 season but that could change come playoff time, reports claim.

“Major League Baseball has had preliminary discussions about holding its postseason in a bubble-type format,” ESPN reporter Jeff Passan writes. “A multicity format that replicates the NHL’s Toronto and Edmonton hubs has gained traction, sources said.”

This year, Major League Baseball will have its biggest postseason in history with 16 teams. The proposed idea “would need at least three hubs” to start, then go to two and eventually one. This would limit travel, something that reports say was responsible for the Marlins outbreak.

“Southern California, the greater Chicago area and the New York metropolitan area make the most sense,” the article stated.

Doing this is a great idea and something that would lessen the risk of an outbreak derailing the postseason. If a Marlins or Cardinals situation happened during the playoffs it would be really, really hard to come back from.
