College Hoops: Saturday’s Shining Moments (2/15)

Now that college football and NFL are through, the spotlight goes to college hoops. I’m totally fine with that — it’s that time of year. Every Saturday from here on out we’ll have the shining moments from a full day of college hoops. I’ve wanted to start this little series for a while and it’s finally time. Enjoy.

Woldetensae at the Horn Lifts UVA Over UNC

Down 62-61 with time ticking away, Tomas Woldetensae caught the ball in the corner from Kihei Clark, pumped, and drifted to his right for a three-ball at the buzzer. With 2.1 remaining in regulation, the shot left his hand and plowed through the net to give UVA a 64-62 lead. Only 0.3 seconds remained after the shot, leaving UNC no time to do anything threatening on the next possession. Woldetensae finished with 18 points — all on three-point field goals — and the Hoos secured their fifth win in their last six games.

Career-Game for Diallo Gives Friars Upset Over #10 Seton Hall

Before Saturday, Alpha Diallo was averaging just 13.2 points per game with zero 20-point games in the Friars’ last eight contests. He went bonkers on Saturday, though, doing so in a huge spot to life the Friars over #10 Seton Hall. The senior finished with a career-high 35 points on 11-for-15 shooting, including a perfect 5-of-5 from beyond the arc. He also had 10 rebounds. Providence snapped a two-game losing streak and put themselves over .500 in Big East action.

Rutgers Stays Perfect at The RAC

The Scarlet Knights continued rolling on Saturday with another win at The RAC. Rutgers pulled away in the second half against #22 Illinois to lift themselves to a 72-57 victory. The win gave Rutgers a nation-best 17-0 record on their home floor. Ron Harper Jr., son of NBA legend Ron Harper, went 5-for-5 from deep en route to a game-high 27 points. With the dub, Rutgers (18-8) climbed back into the KenPom Top 30.
