Sundance Doc About “60 Minutes” Mike Wallace Shows Dark Side

Today, a new documentary will premiere at Sundance about legendary journalist Mike Wallace, titled Mike Wallace is Here. But what a lot of people don’t know about Wallace, who passed away in 2012, is that he had a sad, tormented personal life.

According to an article by The Hollywood Reporter, the director of Mike Wallace is Here, Avi Belkin, said Wallace “was clinically depressed for many, many years and tried to commit suicide.”

Belkin added that he “was very insecure.”

Per the above article by THR, the Wallace family, including his son, Chris Wallace, supported the documentary.

Best known for his work on 60 Minutes, which spanned nearly 40 years, Mike Wallace interviewed some of the most compelling subjects in the world from all walks of life. From Roger Clemens to Yasser Arafat, Wallace was always well-prepared for his sit-downs and the public trusted him. In his career, he won over 20 Emmy Awards, including a Lifetime Achievement Emmy in 2003.
