Terps & Hoos Highlight Local NCAA Tournament Teams

Virgina, Maryland, and a handful of other localish teams made the NCAA Tournament field of 68.

Welp, the official bracket for the NCAA Tournament is officially out and there’s no shortage of local teams to get behind. Virginia, who received one of the four No. 1 seeds, is the most prominent local program in the mix, followed by Maryland, a No. 6 seed, and a few other teams from the state of Virginia.

The East Region, fittingly, has the most teams from the area, with four: Maryland, Virginia Tech, Liberty, and VCU. The Terps, it should be noted, got a great draw because they’ll be playing the winner of the No. 11 play-in game. Besides the East, the South Region is the only quadrant to have any local teams, getting two local entries: Virginia and Old Dominion.

The Monarchs and Flames were the only local teams to receive auto-bids, winning the Conference USA Tournament and Atlantic Sun Tournament, respectively.
