The Obamas jump into the Netflix Game

It seems like every week we’re discussing some interesting new decision Netflix has made, and this week will be no different thanks to Barack Obama.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama and the streaming service have come to terms on a unique multi-year deal that will allow the Obamas to produce a plethora of content.

The deal will allow the Obamas to produce content both on and off the camera.

Just what kind of content will that be?

According to Obama himself in a press release, there will be works by lesser known creative voices.

One of the simple joys of our time in public service was getting to meet so many fascinating people from all walks of life, and to help them share their experiences with a wider audience. That’s why Michelle and I are so excited to partner with Netflix—we hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the entire world.

In the same press release, Michelle added that she would like to spread inspiration.

Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others. Netflix’s unparalleled service is a natural fit for the kinds of stories we want to share, and we look forward to starting this exciting new partnership.

But what does all that mean?

I imagine we’ll see various docu-series tackling some challenging topics that plague us today.

I could also see pieces highlighting uplifting acts from people like community leaders and people helping communities abroad.

We could get a series following the Obamas in their day-to-day lives, something so many find to be an interesting topic.

And finally, I hope we can get the Obamas in the next Expendables movie.

I don’t think that’s too much to ask.

Obama has been no stranger to Netflix since his second term ended, appearing in both Jerry Seinfeld’s Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee and My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with Dave Letterman.

Why couldn’t he hop in the saddle with Sly Stallone and show the true depth of his talent?
