Unpacking Trey Mancini’s New Quinn XCII-Inspired Magazine Cover

A few days ago, Orioles outfielder Trey Mancini announced via Twitter that he’d be featured on the cover of the next issue of Orioles Magazine. In the tweet, the likely AL All-Star noted that the cover design was inspired by QUINN XCII’s album artwork, and the accompanying photo showed as much.

Let me tell you, of all the Orioles Magazine issues I’ve seen, “From Birdland With Love” is by far the coolest and most creative yet. Plus, it gave me something to do: I itemized all the things in the photo and explained the meaning behind some of the not-so-obvious props.

  • “Play Like a Champion Today” sign — Mancini played college baseball at Notre Dame
  • Scooter Photo — Mancini and other O’s ride scooters to the ballpark
  • Rake/Field Liner — Could be featured because they’re just common baseball tools but “rake” is a term used when a batter hits well, and both tools are T shaped. T for Trey…maybe?
  • Mancini Can — Mancini’s is a brand of canned goods. I think the one in the picture is sweet roasted peppers.
  • Boomer XVI — Trey’s nickname and Roman numerals for his jersey number.
  • “Greetings From Birdland” sign
  • O’s Helmet
  • Baseball Glove
  • Interstate 695 sign
  • Baseball Bat

If I’m missing any hidden meanings, let me know and I’ll be sure to add them in!
