Kolek entered the transfer portal after Dave Paulsen (who had ties with Kolek’s AAU coach) was fired from Mason after six seasons. He went on to have a big season as a freshman, doing it on both ends of the court for a 13-9 Patriot team. He averaged 10.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals in 30.7 minutes per game.
A few more players from Mason’s mass exodus are yet to sign with new teams, but many who have signed are moving up the ranks. Kolek, A.J Wilson, Jordan Miller, and Javon Greene are all off to major conferences. That said, new head coach Kim English has brought in multiple high-major players himself, including D’Shawn Schwartz from Colorado.
