Liberty, Old Dominion Make Latest Baseball America NCAA Tournament Field Projection

Baseball America released their latest projections for the 2021 NCAA Baseball Tournament and three Virginia teams were among the field of 64.

The release has Virginia Tech (#16) as the final host team and Old Dominion and Liberty in with at-large bids. Both the Monarchs and Flames are having great seasons with 20-plus wins already and Top 35 RPI ranks. ODU, with 10 wins in their last 11 games, also entered D1Baseball’s Top 25 this week (#22). Liberty, it should be noted, is listed as the last team in the field. They weren’t in the previous projection but they’re red-hot right now; Liberty beat the Hokies handily last night and are riding a five-game winning streak into the weekend.

The Hokies are joined in their region by Florida, UCLA, and UConn.

The Monarchs are joined in the Nashville region by Vanderbilt (host), Ohio State, and Southeast Missouri State.

The Flames are joined in the Knoxville region by Tennessee (host), Georgia Tech, and Stony Brook.

Virginia, after finally getting their act together with two consecutive ACC series wins, was among the “first four out” along with Kentucky, Indiana, and FGCU.
