Former UVA Star Ernie Clement Hits First MLB Homer…Then Another

Former Virginia baseball star Ernie Clement made his big league debut earlier this year and now he’s reached another milestone. The sure-handed gloveman hit his first MLB homer in his first at-bat on Friday night, then followed up with another one in his third at-bat. Both home runs (watch below) were solo jobs.

Cleveland went on to win the game 7-4 over Detroit.

Clement had gone 30 games without a homer before breaking out his power on Friday. It’s no surprise to folks who have been watching him. Clement is red-hot right now, hitting .500 (8-for-16) in his last five games with four extra-base hits. For the season, the 2017 fourth-round pick is hitting .250 with a .655 OPS. While his offense is just coming around now, he’s been Mr. Utility for Cleveland, playing second and third base, shortstop, as well as left field.

Clement played for the UVA baseball team in the mid-2010s, including 2015 when the Wahoos won their first national championship.
