Austin Hays Inside-The-Park HR Caps Crazy O’s-Phillies Game

The Orioles and Phillies had a wacky finish on Tuesday, punctuated by two-run inside-the-park homer from Austin Hays in the top of the tenth to break an 8-8 tie.

Baltimore had a 5-3 lead going into the eighth before a two-run jack by Bryce Harper and solo homer from Jean Segura put the Phillies up 6-5. In the top of the ninth, things got nuttier. Renato Nunez tied the game with an RBI single, then with two outs and the bases juiced, Phillies shortstop Jean Segura tripped over the mound on an infield pop-up from O’s catcher Pedro Severino. Two runs scored and it was 8-6 going into the bottom of the ninth.

O’s righty Cole Sulser coughed it right back though after getting out the first two batters of the inning. A two-run single by Didi Gregorius sent the game to extras, leading to Austin Hays wacky dinger.

The Orioles, picked as the worst team in the MLB before the season, are now 8-7. Philadelphia fell to 5-7. They have two more games in Philly, including a nationally-televised ESPN game on Thursday at 4pm ET.
