NFL: Adrian Peterson Says Redskins Future is Bright

Despite the miserable fan base, league-worst attendance, and missed playoff opportunity, Washington Redskins running back Adrian Peterson thinks the team has a bright future. Speaking with JP Finlay of the #RedskinsTalk podcast, the future Hall-of-Famer said the Redskins were “headed in the right direction” and that the “future is bright for us.”

While that’s surprising, it did come after an announcement that does actually inspire some confidence: Peterson wants to come back next year. Read the quote below (via NBC Sports Washington).

Per NBC Sports Washington:

“I would love to come back,” the running back told Finlay. “I feel like we are headed in the right direction. I love the attitude of the team and how we were able to overcome adversity. The future is bright for us, so I would love to be a part of it going forward.”

Peterson is fresh off a 119-yard performance in Week 16 that put him over 1,000 rushing yards for the first time since 2015. Overall, AP has been extremely consistent and steady for Washington with seven games of 96-plus rushing yards. Heading into their final game of 2018, he has 1,042 rushing yards, seven touchdowns, and 20 receptions.

Last season with Arizona and New Orleans, Peterson averaged just 3.4 yards per carry but with the Redskins, he’s averaging 4.2 per rush. From what we’ve seen from him this year, Washington fans would love to have him back in 2019.
