Washington Redskins Attendance Lowest in NFL

The Washington Redskins attendance is the worst among all 32 teams in the NFL.

Despite the fact that the Redskins were once at the top of the NFC East, and remain in contention going into Week 15, they have the worst attendance in the NFL. That’s right, even teams like Tampa Bay, Arizona, and Buffalo are filling their venue more than Washington has through seven home games.

After their Week 14 blowout to the New York Giants — which included a mass exodus of the fans who actually showed up — the Redskins have the lowest percentage of seats filled per game with 74 percent.

2018 NFL Attendance: Percent of Capacity
(as of December 10th)

#28: Buffalo (91.2%)
#29: Tampa Bay (83.2%)
#30: Cincinnati (78.8%)
#31: LA Rams (77.1%)
#32: Washington (74%)

While some franchises manage to exceed capacity (ie: Denver and Seattle), the Redskins are struggling to fill three-quarters of FedEx Field. It’s embarrassing, really, especially when the empty seats are visible to those watching on TV.

At the same time, it’s something that plenty of other DMV teams are dealing with. Local teams, like the Baltimore Orioles and George Mason basketball, give tickets away for free to certain groups in order to snag extra support for their team. Plus, people who get in for free still spend money once they pass the gate! The Redskins don’t need to let everyone and their brother in for free but even now, the cheapest ticket to their final home game (on StubHub) is $75.00 and $70 on their website, as of December 9th. Maybe something less than $50 would get the turnstiles cranking a bit more. Free tickets also work, though, so hit me up.

When you stop and think about it, the fact that they’ve struggled so bad with attendance is perplexing — people around the DMV love them some Redskins. The numbers don’t lie, however, and it makes you think that the franchise should try and rebuild some of their burnt bridges (or go with Plan A).
