Asher Roth Kicks Off Anniversary Tour in London

When Asher Roth crashed the rap scene in the late-2000s, he forever changed hip hop. In particular, who hip hop allows passed the gate. And while he will never fully get the credit he deserves, there’s a bunch of artists cashing checks right now because Asher showed hip-hop heads that some white boys from the burbs actually have something to say.

It was a special time in the genre because Asher wasn’t the only one changing things. He entered with guys like Kid Cudi, who brought an emo aspect to the table, Wale, potentially D.C.’s greatest MC, and J. Cole, who was blending old school with the new guard.

This is my era; the stuff I’ll show my kids.

It was also 10 years ago.

And for the occasion, Asher hopped the pond for “10 Years of Bread,” an anniversary tour to commemorate his Gold-certified debut album Asleep in the Bread Aisle.

The tour, which kicked off today in London at O2 Academy Islington, will run until May 25th with a show pretty much every night. Altogether, Ash will do 13 shows, with stops in France, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and United Kingdom.

Judging from the video, the spot was packed out. He hasn’t done a U.S tour recently but if he does, I’d like to think it’d produce similar results.

I feel like this overseas tour is just what Asher needs to release a new project. He’s hinted at it recently, but after getting love from the masses, I bet he kicks it into overdrive.
