Baltimore Ravens: RG3 Sees First NFL Action Since 2016 Season

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III (or RG3) saw action in a real NFL game for the first time since 2016 on Sunday for the Baltimore Ravens.

Of all the quarterback rooms in the NFL, the Baltimore Ravens have one of the absolute best. Besides their regular starter Joe Flacco, who has a Super Bowl win under his belt, they have an emerging superstar and Heisman winner in Lamar Jackson. That’s not all, though, the Ravens also have a second Heisman winner as their third-string signal caller — Robert Griffin III.

On Sunday, with Joe Flacco out (again) and Lamar Jackson in concussion protocol, RG3 played in his first NFL game since the 2016 season. In his lone drive against the Atlanta Falcons, Griffin III led the Ravens down for a field goal on a run-heavy, eight-minute possession. It lasted 14 plays and saw RG3 complete two passes on four attempts for 21 yards.

While it was a small sample, the former Redskins star did his job: he ate a lot of clock and led the offense on a scoring drive. You’ve gotta start somewhere, right?

The Ravens, now 7-5, went on to a 26-16 win over the Falcons.

For those keeping track at home, RG3’s last game before Sunday was pretty good as a member of the Cleveland Browns on January 1st, 2017. The Browns lost in overtime to the Steelers 27-24 but RG3, who started the game, wound up with 92.9 quarterback rating, two touchdown passes, and five carries for 32 yards.

Baltimore will travel to Kansas City for a tough game next week at Arrowhead Stadium.
