James Harden & Kevin Durant Reunite in Brooklyn and Deliver Monster Numbers

Playing in their first NBA game together since the 2012 NBA Finals, Kevin Durant and James Harden combined for 74 points and delivered a 122-115 win for Brooklyn over Orlando. Durant led all scorers with a season-high 42 points while Harden, playing in his first game as a Net, notched a triple-double (32 points, 14 assists, 12 rebounds).

Harden, who looked noticeably skinnier in his Nets’ debut, was acquired in a blockbuster four-team trade earlier this week.

“I’m a hooper,” he told reporters after the win. “I’m very unselfish — I’ll do whatever it takes to win.”

Durant was a very efficient 16-for-28 from the field, including 5-of-8 from beyond the arc. Harden, who only scored two points in the first quarter, was just 6-of-15 but got to the line a ton (13-of-15). Prior to the game, Harden wasn’t able to squeeze in a practice with his new team, which may have played a part in his nine turnovers.

According to ESPN, Harden is the first player in Nets’ history to have a triple-double in his team debut.

From 2009-12, the Oklahoma City Thunder had Harden, Durant, and Russell Westbrook on their roster — three eventual NBA MVPs. Their run together culminated with an appearance in the 2012 NBA Finals vs. Miami, though it was also unknowingly their swan song as well. Harden was traded to Houston before the start of the 2012-13 regular season.
